"Summer Rain" by Christiana Igbokwe — A Calm Anthem of Joy and Discovery

Summer Rain is the fourth single of 2025 from 12-year-old music activist and humanitarian Christiana Igbokwe, a rising star with a legacy rooted in greatness as the granddaughter of Nigerian music icon Christy Essien Igbokwe. Blending African and reggae rhythms, this mellow, happy, and calming track captures a child’s perspective of travel, wonder, and the unpredictability of life.

Inspired by stories her mother shared about London and later by her own summer visits to the city Christiana penned Summer Rain as a reflection on both the limitations and excitement that come with exploring a new place. Her first trip was dampened by London’s famously fickle weather, but her second was filled with unforgettable experiences: from the Natural History and Science Museums to the London Zoo, LEGO LAND, and even the magic of the Harry Potter Studio Tour. There’s something truly special about the London air, it carries a sense of magic and adventure."

In Summer Rain, Christiana captures that shift from waiting inside under cloudy skies to stepping out into a world of vibrant discovery. With a smooth fusion of reggae soul and African warmth, this song is a celebration of resilience, joy, and the simple beauty found in both rain and sunshine.

Following her previous releases Champion, Ku Saura (featuring Ali Jita and Christy Essien), and On God Remix (featuring Makayla Malaka), Summer Rain adds new depth to Christiana’s growing discography, which is building toward her highly anticipated debut albums: The Rebirth and Happy Days.

Fast rising 9 year old Nigerian American Singer Christiana Igbokwe features her grandma, Music Legend Christy Essien Igbokwe on this remake. The song Seun Rere sheds more light on the African conversation between mother and child, advising her Child to listen, so that all will be well with him/her. Seun Rere also gives an insight into how one-sided traditional African parenting is. Echoeing the idea that when a child is good, the African culture showers praises on the father but if the child goes down a different path, the blame lies on the mother. The very structure of the song itself is revolutionary, the classic horns with a blend of the African talking drums, the bounce on the beat and the powerful vocals breaks every language barrier, making this an instant hit.

The EP Motherland is about telling our African stories using music, calling for reforms and change in our faulty systems. As Africans, we are the only people who can liberate ourselves from poverty through education and empowering the girl child. Africans must pay the price to rebuild the continent, our rich culture and history. We must revive our strong family ties, the deep connection to our communities and our pride in our African music, art, and dance. Our roots and our cultural diversity make us who we are. It makes us authentic, keeps us grounded and unique; so that as we interact with others and make international connections, we can build bridges of trust, respect, development and understanding across cultures.” Ubuntu I am only because we are.
